Introduction
The issue of small states has been contentious over the years. Many scholars argued that the small states ought to be merged with bigger ones since they were not able to survive in the great worldly challenges that occurred from the 19th century. The small states were doomed and their survival was not guaranteed. However, small states continued to increase and survived the fierce world wars and later the cold war that separated the world into two blocks (Tames et al., 2008, para 2). However, over the years, it has emerged that small states have come up with policies that enable them to survive in harsh situations such as blockades and political unrests. The last few decades have seen a globalizing world whereby changes have taken place in Europe, Middle East and other regions, which have brought about imperialism, separatism, and the international courts of justice. Small states’ relationship intensifies with their counterparts when threats increase since there is a need to have better understanding of their survival. In the cases of crisis and confrontations, small countries have come up with methods that ensures their survival while maintaining their international status. The existence of a small nation can disappear according to scholars and the country knows about that (Tames et al., 2008, para 8). Therefore, it remains paramount for such countries to incorporate strong measures for better existence. Indeed, it such small states that have the ability to withstand challenging situations involving international laws and policies which have been able to develop in the past decades. However, before their development, there were contentions which they had to deal with prior to their emergence. Qatar and Fiji are two small states which have their existence tried many times owing to the relationship that they have had with their neighbors. The research paper presented in this case will be a detailed comparison between Fiji and Qatar and how they deal with crisis and confrontation.
