Change management is an approach that systematically deals with the growth or evolution of a company’s goals. It is a process that combines different strategies to help an organization to make changes either as a team or individually. It considers what needs to be changed when it should be changed and how the change will occur. The primary purpose of change management is to provide an environment that effects vary, controls that change and assists the masses acclimatize to that change. The most critical component of change management is documentation. It helps to maintain a trail for compliance both internally and externally. There are six stages of change management (Heathfield, 2015). They include initiation, investigation, intention, introduction, implementation, and integration.
The process of change is a very long and tedious one. The level of empowerment by the employees and involvement in day-to-day activities will affect how the transformation proceeds. If the employee unit desires the change, it will be easier than when they are not. The size and scope of the organization also determine the change process. Changes to a single department will require less planning and workforce to achieve than a shift in the whole organization. Changes can be viewed as either negative or positive depending on the perception. If the majority of the employees term the change as positive, then they will have widespread support. Since change is a process, the right steps must be taken to achieve it. This ends up reducing resistance to change and ending up with the desired results.
