The history of drones
A drone is also referred to as a pilotless aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) among other names. Just as the names suggests, drones are aircrafts that can either be controlled remotely or by a computer and do not have a pilot on board. A drone is different from a missile. Drones are aircrafts that usually fly back to their point of origin while missiles are bombs, which are usually directed to a target on which they explode on impact. Currently, drones are used for many purposes and its technology has been advancing each day. The concept of drones started way back in the late 19th century (Vyas, 2018). This notion was born in 1849 when Austria invaded the city of Venice in Italy. During this attack, Austria flew some balloons to the city of Venice that were loaded with explosives. Even though not all of the balloons that were launched reached the target, the idea was able to inspire a new approach of conducting aerial missions. Consequently, Austria entered into a rigorous project of developing the unmanned balloons that could carry explosives to its enemies’ territories.
