A Colorful Type of Music (Essay Sample)

The music of the Caribbean is a colorful type of music that is originated from complicated influences.it has been influenced and made effective by the African traditional culture and colonialism of the Europeans. It carries a unique character of places being separated by water. The Tom Cat Mambo by Invaders which is a calypso type of music is among the Caribbean music which is Afro. It has been developed from the tribal songs from the western region from the Tobago and Trinidad Island (Hylton,1975). Calypso has features of response and call, fast driving rhythm, and verses that are improvised. It is known for commenting on current events happening as well as people. Calypso is highly played in carnival celebrations in Tobago and Triniland. Due to its use of percussion and upbeat, it is always competitive to great effects. In World War II events, another type of music came up with distinct features with the sounds of steel bands. It was developed through a combintionn of earlier African traditional features in Trilanfd which made use of oil drums. Since the playing surface of the drum is of concave shape, it would produce various tones when hit with a stick. Pannists are the musicians who play steep drums and they are also known for playing calypso tunes with the drum.
Musical style
The most popular music form used in this song is a combination of the dance hall and American hip-hop. It is also defined by the harmonic vocals which are highly rhythmical and breezy melodies that have been played in traditional instruments.
Musical Instruments
The following are the musical instruments used while playing calypso tune;
* Steel drums have been used while playing tunes by Invaders which have been played with rubber mallets. The steel drum has helped to give a dance hall feeling at various pitches to the song.
* The scratch is also another instrument that has been used in the rhythm section of this song.
* Bass instruments have also been used in this song the help of creating a fuller sound.
