COMPARISON AND CONTRAST IN BETWEEN 2004 AND 2012 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CAMPAIGNS
Introduction
In political campaign strategies, there has been the idea of trying to oppose the opponent’s view by attacking him/her. However, the issue did not prevail in the US campaigns in the years 2004 to 2012. (Hopkins & Ladd, 2013) The aim of this paper is to examine these adverts used in the political dynamics in the US. In the year 2004, the campaigns were based on negative ads posted against the opponents, whereas, in the year 2012, campaign policies were changed as there was the use of active strategies like giving the voters hope and making them proud of their candidates. (Martin, 2014) Many campaign ads have come to the attention of the masses at different times in the US as follows:
The swift vet against Kerry in 2004.
This advert discredited Kerry’s military records in the presidential campaigns of 2004. There was a production of a series of videos as well as a book "Unfit for Command" in which a group of people claimed to have worked with him in the military. However, in reality, he had only worked together with only one amongst the possible thirteen. (Martin, 2014) This advert can be a reason why Kerry was not able to be American president at that time and even after that. Generally speaking, such kind of ads makes people lose any hope they had for the future, although the primary interest of politics is to finish the strengths of the opponents entirely.
The 2008 Hillary’s red phone.
In this, there was a video in which Hillary Clinton raised the issue of national security in a very degradingly provocative way at around three a.m. The video was quite similar to that of Walter Mondale's in the year 1894 that brought a very feeble picture of the states. (Toniatti, 2014) In my opinion, this video must be the mastermind behind Clinton’s not moving above the senatorial position in the politic of U.S. So, as much as the adverts are good especially in the political arena, we must as well admit that generally, the advertisements play a significant role in the U.S politics.
Mike gravel’s video advert of 2008
This advert had the image of Gravel standing for a very long time near a waterbody, seemingly a lake, took a rock, threw it into the lake and then walked away. This video spread out like a bush fire only for him to end up with less than 1% of the total votes casted. (Moshary, 2014) As we can be enjoying the campaign adverts, they are equally letting people down regardless of the investment put in them.
Obama’s "yes we can" 2012
In this advert, the current U.S president is portrayed as an individual who is down to earth giving people hope for the future with his slogan. (Martin, 2014) The slogan later appeared in many music videos some of which were those of very famous artists like John Legend. The effect of the video alone makes to think made easier Obama’s subsequent campaigns. So in other words, the main aim of any advertisement is to build, but some serve the opposite functions.
Conclusion
In summary, adverts are not that bad, but we need to answer the question of "how?" For example; how much we spend on it, how it affects the behavior of the voters among other issues. Advertisements are therefore vital tools for the ones used before 2008 led to a hybrid one used to date. (Lee & Earley, 2014) However, no one can object the fact that even today there are some other worst things to those i...
