Maggie Downs’s article, ‘Timm Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy,’ discusses the challenges faced by a mother as she tries to look after her new-born son. The shower in her home is leaking into the garage, and she has to seek help from the house lady to try and resolve the issue. The house lady hires a less experienced company that is both unskilled and unequipped. The weeks that follow are noisy due to the construction and renovation taking place, and this makes it very difficult for her to raise her son. Her asthma condition worsens due to the amount of dust she inhales from the construction, and it’s quite difficult for her to oversee the development, and still look after her offspring. She is home all alone, and her wounds from the Caesarean section are still raw. She tried to rock her son to sleep, but the noise was too unbearable for the baby to get any sleep. To try and escape from the intolerable situation, she turns to watch old episodes of ‘Project Runway.’ From the show, she wishes that she had a friend like Timm Gunn, (an on-air mentor to designers on the television program) who would inspire her to power through the entire predicament.
