The first known relationship theory was formulated in 1973 by psychologists Dalmas Tylor and Irwin Altman and used to explain the affection and connection between two people. Stenberg, a modern age psychologist developed the Triangular love theory that explains the three levels of affection; intimacy, passion, and commitment. In the creation of a dating website, understanding the theories of relationship can be a critical factor in determining whether a relationship will succeed or fail.
First, an online dating sites should advise its members to be friends or acquaintances rather than lovers. The idea would ensure many relationships do not fail and many online dating users do not get disappointment ("Multiculturalism in interethnic intimate relationships," 2015, p. 10). One of the reasons why online dating fail is because many of the couple enter into online dating with high expectations like long term commitment, serious relationships or even marriage without any expectation of a failed relationship. The result is disappointment and failure in many relationship. The sexual configurations theory, opposite sexes are attracted to each not necessarily for love but by lust where many people fantasize the idea of a casual encounter. When a person enters into a relationship thinking of an serious relationship, they are likely to get disappointed since the other party must thinking that the relationship is just for fun.
