ANALYZING abraham character using an author KIERKEGAARD source..
Content:
Abraham rises in the morning with his servant Eleazar and Isaack and embarks on a three day journey to Mount Moriah to sacrifice his only son, with instructions from God, what makes the story great or mythical, is Abraham ready to sacrifice his only beloved son ,Abraham by faith leaves his motherland and he becomes a sojourner in a land that he least understand anything about ,an act of faith that pleases God.pg( 6) Abraham story is mythical in that he is a man that wrestles not with the human desire to stay at a certain land or striving to fighting with human beings but he wrestles to fight with all powerful God, he is rich in wisdom ,something considered as foolishness by human beings, Abraham hates himself to love God ,he lives on earth but with a heavenly understanding. By faith Abraham receives a promise that he will be a father of many nations while he barely has a son to sire the generation. (PG 7), It is truly an act of faith since Abraham is old in age his wife Sarah likewise, the laughing stalk of the society has been promised to become a father of thousand generations, a time that Sarah is succumbed to grief by lacking a son and being blinded by old age Abraham believes in God promises. The Author admires heroic, Abraham faith in God, his promises when nothing is making sense, when Abraham situation of lacking a son is indeed a ridicule of Gods promises. (pg 5)Abraham doesn't ask God to consider Elezaar the faithful servant for the sacrifice on the mountain instead, he asks the him to head back home along the journey leaving him with Isaack. According to the author Abraham is has a duty to God ,he is answerable to him as his supreme creator, whatever God requires Abraham to perform has no room for negotiation ,while yet when you focus on mosaic laws the same God that is asking Abraham to sacrifice his son ,has asked him to love his neighbor and not to kill, is it that God is contradicting himself in this context with the laws that he has commanded for his people or is it that Abraham is obeying and disobeying at the same time, obeying God by sacrificing his own son that is deemed to be the father of a thousand generations and killing his only son, which is wrong in accordance to Gods expectation in human beings relation.(pg 33) true duty towards God seem to be against human relation or ethical aspect of a human being is it right to kill as a human being ? and is it right to defy God that has made existence of human beings possible. Abraham is in temptation he is to fulfill Gods duty while on the other hand he denies himself the ethical part of preserving life. Abraham has no resistance to what he is being asked to perform, even though he loves his son Isaack. Abraham is tempted and he can't question God. Abraham is not acting out of love for his son but faith and duty to God (pg 34), Abraham is ready to sacrifice his son Isaack courage in faith which can be regarded as humility, denying oneself to enjoy the only hope that seem to exist some day for a duty to God that he has barely seen I will agree Kierkegaard's reading of the Abraham story to some extent, Abraham is behav...
