The question of whether public prayer is okay in schools is a multi-pronged question that touches on a variety of issues, including discrimination, basic human rights and immigrant issues. While prayers have formed part of the human culture for centuries, in recent years, public prayers have been a sensitive issue because of the issue of religion. While in the past most of the people in a particular place had common beliefs regarding God and how to pray to their God, recent interactions of people across the globe have led to sprouting of multi-cultural and diverse populations. It is now common to have people living within the same town with various religious beliefs. Some of these beliefs may be directly opposing each other. In these cases, it has become increasingly important to be sensitive when holding events such as public prayers (Knowler, 2017). In this essay, the issue of whether it is okay to have public prayers in schools narrows down to the school scenario.
