Introduction
troductionard Business School Leadership is the process in which a person of higher authority oversees and influences how other people act towards the accomplishment of a certain goal in a given task. The manager induces relevant behavior in his/her subordinates. A Crisis refers to undesired events that occur on short notice events are not planned for. They come as a surprise and can cause disruptions in the organization structure and function (Alexander Ludwig's). A good leader is able to inspire and guide others towards the right direction, especially in times of crisis. In a crisis, the right decisions are made at short notice to calm down the situation. There are two major types of leadership, and each type responds differently to the other in times of crisis. These types include:
* Democratic leadership-It is also called participatory leadership. The manager allows all the views of the subordinates to be heard. The group is more involved in the decision-making, although the manager makes the final decision after consulting. It promotes free thinking of the employees.
* Autocratic leadership-this is an authoritative where directives are centralized and issued by the manager. The leadership is rigid. He/she does not consult the subordinates, and the latter are expected to follow instructions without questions.
Leadership contributes to the productivity of the organization. It is important that the response a leader gives in times of crisis is positive, as it may create a lot of loyalty and trust in the subordinates or break trust within the organization. A leadership style affects how employees relate to each other and to the authority.
Autocratic leadership is rigid and the manager makes decisions on behalf of the employees. The decisions made are to be followed and not questioned (Dessler & Starke, 2004). Autocratic leadership is very effective at giving directions to new and unskilled employees. They are very keen on following the manager’s directives to avoid punishments and threats given if orders are not followed. This minimizes the collateral damage caused by the crisis, such
