Racial Profiling
Introduction
Racial profiling occurs when a group of people are subjected to different treatments or scrutiny based on negative stereotypes in relation to their race as well as other grounds such as religion and age. In the US, racial profiling has been widely confused with criminal profiling. The reality is that the two are different. Racial profiling is based on stereotypic assumptions while criminal profiling is based on the actual behavior by someone who fits the description of a specified person.Racial profiling has had severe implication to the American society and some of the implications include loss of dignity and self-confidence, loss of confidence and trust in public institutions and disempowerment among the affected groups and measures such as public awareness and institutional reforms should be carried out in a bid to stop the practice.
Loss of Dignity and Self-Confidence
Racial profiling has been the reason as to why many victims have lost their dignity and self-confidence. Most of the Blacks and the Hispanics have fallen victims of racial profiling in a sense that they have been branded thieves, thugs and even terrorists which has made some of them to go through some nasty experiences in the hands of the perpetuators and in this regard have ended up losing their self-confidence and dignity (Myers, 2011).
