Introduction
The film “Reflection on Tuesdays with Morrie” is a great film that has numerous lessons that are essential to the contemporary world. The work below intends to deliberate on the lessons drawn from the piece, and giving explanation on my initial reaction towards film.
Initial reaction
On my first day to watch the film, I dint like it very much. Unlike other classmates who had read the book before, and had full knowledge of the plot, I had not read it, and had no knowledge on the plot. I was quite ambivalent on watching the movie since I had a perception that it was boring. As the film unfolds, we get to meet Morrie, who is a professor, and we we shown their encounter Mitch who was his student in the university twenty years ago.
However, as the story unfolds, the film gets much captivating. We get to learn important lessons from the book. In actual sense, the author has used the professor to unleash wisdom. My initial reaction towards changes as the film continues, I get to love the story most at the point where we get to know how successful Mitch was financially, but was never happy. Mitch had long aspired to become a musician later abandoned this dream. Another character that made me change my initial reaction towards the book is Janine (Merchant, & Clements, 2009). She is the girlfriend to Mitch yet, can hardly get time for her. Mitch uses much of her time to search for money. Mitch has to reevaluate his life and value love more than money. I get to believe that people should value happiness over success.
As I watched the movie fully, I came to a conclusion that, I need to prioritize happiness and happiness over money and success. In as much as I aspire to become rich and successful in life, I wish I don’t live a life like that of Mitch who was wealthy but had no time for his family. My main aim is to have more time and always keet in touch with my family besides my friends.
Moreover, I had a reaction and feeling that we should always live in the moment, worry about Ageing but instead endeavor towards enjoying the life to the fullest.
Another initial reaction to the film is that, I need to always forgive myself and my friends and always.
Another internal feeling that I had towards the film was how to relate with my clients in my profession. I felt I should always live like the college professor, so that I can one day be intimate with most if not all clients in my field. Believe that one day I will finally perish, either from natural death or from a man-made death; therefore, I get inspired from the book to believe that every client in my career will one day feel that I love them like they were my own children, and to the elderly, like my own parents, for love is my ultimate goal, derived from the film.
Question 2
Touch and intimacy
Not only is touch and intimacy a necessity to the aged, but they are also essential to their health. The best gift we can accord the elder ly is intimacy and touch. However, it is worth noting that people should use their lives to capitalize in social relationship and love. It is my belief that when we capitalize on love and family touch as parents, we will always get intimacy back. Moreover, our career should also help us develop the intimacy.
IAs the professor frames it, age is never decay but it is a growth. The film posits that as people grow, they acquire more knowledge in their lives. The pieces lets us understand how age would make one lean several things in life we get to believe that people should always get rid of the feeling that age is linked to death. He posits that it is not negative to feel that we will definitely die; however, we should have a positive feeling towards the perception of death (Merchant, & Clements, 2009)..
My belief on how older people suffer from touch deprivation
I strongly believe that the elderly suffer from deprivation of touch. Before we finalize on the impacts and effects of this, we must accept that the current economic hardship plays a significant role in depriving the elderly of touch.
Our society contributes to deprivation of touch and intimacy to the elderly by their greed for money and success. A lot of time is committed in seeking for financial success at the expense of the family affairs. However, as people grow old, they demand love than material wealth.
Our society contributes to the deprivation of touch to the elderly. One way the society accepts this is through the use of technology. Technology has made the world to be a global village. Technology has impacted in making people more anti social. Parents rarely get in touch with their children one on one. The elderly thus, get socially alienated from the other members of their society.
How can nurses enhance touch for older people?
In the setting of a nurse elderly client setting, touch is essentially fundamental. The process of nursing the elderly clients demands that the nurses make good use of touch. it has been scientifically proven that the use of touch by the health practitioners helps very much in enhancing comfort to the clients.
Touch by the nurses is often linked to the routine duties within the nursing process. Caring touch intervention seems to be of great significance to the elderly patients.
The recommendation that can help in enhancing the touch is doing a further comprehensive research on this topic and prudence with extensive acceptance of touch as an intervention.
