The nursing sector plays a crucial role in the provision of patient-centered care within healthcare institutions in America. Currently, U.S. hospitals have been experiencing shortages of Registered Nurses (RN) due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which poses a significant health concern. Health centers in the U.S. tend to face various risks associated with a low nurse-patient ratio because of the growing need for healthcare among patients requiring critical care.
Nursing shortages may result in increased patient infections within healthcare institutions. Notably, high rates of pneumonia among U.S. hospitals are often linked to low nurse turnover. This health issue can be devastating, particularly in hospitals treating cardiothoracic surgical patients. Arguably, in a circumstance where acute care units are understaffed, hospitals tend to record rising cases of E cloacae infections, which may escalate a patient’s deteriorating condition (Noël et al., 2019). On that note, the problem may cause a severe health risk including patient’s death and discredit to the hospital.
