Many of the human inventions have undoubtedly helped in easing many tasks, some of which required much effort to complete. Inventions such as the planes, mobile phones and computers have all offered humans the much-need assistance in various spheres of life. While all these have been unanimously embraced, it is a different scenario when it comes to cloning. To some especially the religious ones, cloning mounts to usurping the creator’s position while to others, it is just an invention. Whereas this issue has split many people, the position taken in this paper is that cloning is acceptable so long as the ethical issues involved are addressed first.
Coined in 1963 by JBS Holdone, the term ‘clone’ refers to the asexual production of a genetically-identical copy of a particular plant, animal or bacteria. The opponents of this invention argue that the inventors do not adequately address some of the ethical concerns. For instance, it was reported that the cloned animals normally experience malformations, resulting in death. Additionally, the opponents contest that the technology has not developed to safety standards, and that it threatens both the cloned and the parent animal. The case becomes worse when the technology is extended to humans (Fiester, 2005). In light of the aforementioned issues, it is evident that cloning would not be right without first addressing the same.
Notwithstanding the stated opposing concerns, the proponents of the technology argue that it could have more benefits, and that the issues raised could be addressed with time.
