Commenting on Posts: Whole is Different from the Sum of its Parts (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

this sample answers questions provided by the client based on the following instructions:
When looking at the idea of "the whole is different from the sum of its parts" l look to my time in the Army. When looking at this idea and people. There is always more to someone then what we see or know. Just because someone knows a little about someone or something doesn't make them a expert. For example, a Soldier from a former unit was always in trouble and was the most unreliable person I had ever met. If something could be done wrong this individual did it. there was no trust or bond developed while in a garrison environment. However, once deployed overseas this individual did a complete turn around. Being one of the most relied upon individuals. By the end of our deployment I trusted this individual with my life. An still do to this day. This is a good example of how the sum of parts is different from the whole. Looking at this individual in a training environment I wouldn't have trusted him with my shoes. However, when put into a life or death situation the true person that he was came out and the whole was shown.

have had quite a few encounters with people who I heard things about from others but when I actually talked to these people or got to know who they are personally, I realized that the other people were just not taking the time to know you they are. One person, in particular, who I didn't know personally at first, was always called weird and unfriendly. People would talk about her constantly and one day I happened to be in a class with her and decided to talk to her. It took her a while to warm up and definitely some effort on my part. But, eventually we got closer and I come to find out that she was experiencing bad problems at home and had severe anxiety due to those problems. She didn't talk to people not because she was rude or antisocial but she was insecure and worried about saying the wrong thing. People completely just judged her instead of taking the time to get to know her personally. It was definitely a case of "there is more to perception than meets the eye". It really made me want to learn about people and see who they are because you really never know what someone is going through. People have all kinds of quirks and characteristics that make them who they are due to the circumstances that they have been put in.

The first post aims to affirm the implications harbored in the idea "the whole is different from the sum of its parts." The writer tries to convince the reader that the story is real by giving an illustration of his fellow soldier. Accordingly, he meticulously presents the order of events to suit his objective. First of all, he explains that at his initial meeting, the colleague proved to be unreliable. In fact, he points out that during that time, he even believed that if something goes wrong, his military colleague could be involved in it behind his back.
Apparently, the encounter resonates with the idea at the beginning of the post since anyone who believes the whole to be similar to the sum of its parts would conclude that the writer’s troop member was undependable. To discredit this conclusion, the author goes ahead to talk about how the partner transformed when deployed overseas to become one of the most reliable individuals. Ultimately what "the whole," which, in this case, refers to the soldier, the writer is referring to becomes not a sum of its "parts" that include his undependability during training.

The current post seeks to prove the idea: "there is more to perception than meets the eye." In a similar fashion as in the preceding post, the author uses a real life example to present his ...
