Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an example of a neurocognitive disorder and the most common type of dementia. Its prevalence and incidence rise exponentially with age, doubling in pervasiveness every five years after 65 years (Apostolova, 2016). In addition to age, the presence of apolipoprotein gene E4 alleles (APOE4), family history, traumatic brain injuries, low educational and occupational attainments, and cardiovascular disorders are risk factors for AD development (Apostolova, 2016). Regarding gender, approximately two-thirds of all AD patients are women. Further, data on racial disparities indicate that older African Americans and Hispanics record higher prevalence than Caucasians, probably due to lower educational levels and elevated cardiovascular comorbidities cases.
AD is a clinical syndrome presented by a cluster of signs and symptoms. The most outstanding feature is memory loss evident at the early stages. Individuals with the illness also experience continuing functional and cognitive decline, repetitive questioning, word-finding difficulties, withdrawal from social interactions, and impairments in daily
