Tracey King crafted her thesis implying that cardiac implant patients who are under the care of a registered nurse are more likely to be satisfied compared to one who is not. Furthermore, she argues that the planning control emanating from experiments is key to determining the efficiency of any health organization. A hospital discharge survey was used to check the level of satisfaction in cardiac implant patients which includes instruments such as medication reconciliation, length of stay, 30-day readmission rate and discharge phone call. They were used to come up with the satisfaction score for a registered versus unregistered nurse (King, 2008).
The instruments of choice by the author include medical reconciliation, length of stay, readmission rate and discharge phone call. Medical reconciliation involves validating that the medicine given to a patient matches the order given either to admit, transfer or discharge the patient. A registered nurse should question why a physician omits to give a drug which was initially prescribed for the patient. Length of stay is reported by the number of days a patient is hospitalized.30-day readmission rate refers to the probability of a patient returning to the hospital before a month is over after discharge. It is reported by checking up when the patient last checked out of the hospital. Discharge phone call refers to the interactions that a nurse engages with the patient outside the hospital set up after discharge where they try to identify the patient’s status. All the above work together in determining the level of satisfaction a patient has on the hospital system.
In terms of validity and reliability of the instruments in question, only the 30 readmission rate which fails the test of being valid and reliable (Fischer et al, 2014). Chronic illnesses in patients may inject bias whereby the patient may not be satisfied with the nurse’s effort even though their health condition is incurable. Making calls to the patient shows the one in pain that the nurse is considerate of their plight hence giving satisfactory remarks will not be a problem (Nguhuni et al, 2017). Length of stay in the hospital is a valid measure because it is positively correlated
