Asthma is an intermittent condition that has over time recorded poor control and management; resulting in constant medication use and disrupted livelihoods (Boulet, 2015). Patient education is poor mainly because patients do not seek to acquire adequate awareness, while physicians fail to actively integrate it into their practice. Asthma patients require a treatment program that reduces their symptoms, eliminates adverse risks that accompany the condition and improves their quality of life (Kelso, 2016). To effectively manage Asthma, the patients and their care givers are required to incorporate daily management regimens and be able to assess and recognize worsening symptoms. This is referred to as asthma information and self-management training. The best way of assisting and guiding patients to perform accurate self-monitoring of symptoms is by developing an Asthma Action Plan.
