Carbachol is categorized as a type of cholinergic medication that can be used by doctors during cataract surgeries. The purpose of this medication during surgery is to reduce eye pressure by constricting the pupil (Abdelkader & Kaufman, 2016). The generic name for this medication is carbachol ophthalmic. The brand name of this prescription drug that is available in the UAE is Miostat.
General characteristics
Carbachol medication has various characteristics. First, people with the following conditions are advised to consult the doctor before taking this drug: Parkinson’s disease, stomach ulcer, asthma or a recent eye injury (Multum, 2020). Secondly, people should not use this medication while doing something that requires attention like driving because it might cause impaired vision. Thirdly, people using contact lenses are advised not to take this medication because it might discolor the contacts.

The chemical name of the active ingredient present in Carbachol is Ethanaminium.
