CASE STUDY: Albert
People develop different attitudes towards things and ideas due to their choice of beliefs. The choice of belief may either positively or negatively affect their life. However, people should prioritize their knowledge to beliefs. Besides, one should analyze and challenge information before deciding to believe it. Alberts's choice of belief was based on a lack of knowledge on vaccination. Enlightening him on the facts about vaccination will withdraw his perception towards vaccination. This paper is a case study. It is hence aimed at addressing how to change Albert's perception of vaccination using different learning domains.
How would you address Albert's beliefs?
In response to Albert's beliefs, explaining to him the difference between myths and facts will be of paramount importance. Alberts belief, that vaccine is worse than the diseases themselves, is based on ignorance since vaccines are meant to protect one from diseases. Most of the vaccines have no side effects, and if there is, perhaps on continuous use of the same kind. For instance, diseases such as measles, polio, and influenza led to young children's high motility rate (Conis, 2019). The introduction of the vaccines on those diseases quelled their fatality. Albert should be shown the importance of taking the vaccine and the disadvantages of not taking it. By not taking the vaccine means putting his life into great jeopardy.
What learning would be needed in each domain?
A cognitive domain entails the use of the hierarchy of knowledge in problem-solving. Before applying a piece of knowledge, it must be processed, well understood, and then applied to solve a problem (Hoque, 2016). Applying the cognitive domain in dealing with Albert's situation means making Albert recognize the facts about the vaccine, understand and interpret it. Any information should be well analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated before it is applied.
The affective domain deals with things emotionally. It involves steps such as; getting the awareness of feelings and emotions and utilizing the selected attention, responding to the learner’s participation in the problem analysis, putting a value on the learner, prioritizing his worth, and finally letting it control his behavior (Hoque, 2016). A nurse handling Albert should try to show concern to him and be open on her life matters while addressing him. One should be able to arrange the feelings from the simpler ones to the more complex ones.
Psychomotor Domain involves applying sensory information, being ready to act, imitate displayed behavior, acting to learned responses, complex overt responses, modifying the learned skills to meet the expectation of the event, and making an organized movement pattern for a situation (Hoque, 2016). Albert at this stage is expected to have decided on either to take the vaccine or not. The nurse should use the statistical materials to show Albert the success of the vaccine over time.
What learning theories would you consider?
The affective domain has a high chance of succeeding as it aims at winning the patient's emotions. Being open to a patient weakens the patient and makes him less resistant. If well applied, the affective domain will make Albert mo
