Infectious diseases cause suffering and death and inflict a financial burden to the community. Despite some diseases being conquered by the use of modern advances like vaccines and antibiotics, new ones are continually emerging (Fauci, & Morens, 2012). Since no one understand and realizes which new disease will surface, the public health sector should be prepared for the unanticipated. If various drugs cannot be substituted since they lose their effectiveness, or if the spread and emergence of drug resistance cannot be limited, several diseases could become untreatable, like they used to be in the pre-antibiotic period. There are various strategies that should be adopted for the evaluation and development of effective measures associated with infectious diseases. Hand hygiene is another strategy efficient for removal of viruses and bacteria from hands so that they will not be transmitted to the environmental surface or other people. The blood-borne pathogen prevention and the injection safety is also a key strategy. The blood-borne pathogen aids in prevention of transmission of blood-borne pathogens like Hepatitis B, HIV, or Hepatitis C in residential and healthcare settings (2012).
According to Kouadio, et al, antibiotic stewardship is a key strategy for infectious diseases prevention. People should use antibiotics wisely to avoid bacteria from mounting resistance to the drugs used for their treatment. The use of comprehensive unit-based safety program is a vital strategy for infectious disease prevention. The use of these programs denotes a strategic structure for patient safety enhancement that integrates leadership, communication, and teamwork. Each unit should comprise its own prevention champions that will become the control and infection prevention department extension (2012).
