Nurses and physicians are the most significant users of EHR systems in most health care facilities worldwide. Therefore, there is a need to incorporate them into the planning process before the implementation of any new system that will affect their daily routine. Nurses pose a lot of knowledge; thus, they can provide significant benefits and add value to the EHR system before its implementation. Some of the vital questions to ask before application include
1. Will the interface work for you? It is necessary to show and test the projected interface with the nursing staff and ask them whether it will work for them. The nurses will then be able to compare the existing system with its replacement and be able to tell the differences between them (Colligan et al., 2015). Besides, they can determine whether the proposed EHR system will be able to solve the problems they faced with the previous regime. Finally, after careful observation, they will come into a conclusion of whether the system will work for them, or it might pose significant challenges adjusting.
2. Which data entry features shall be useful in improving workflows? Considering that nurses and physicians are responsible for a large portion of data entry and documentation, it is equally important to ask them how data entry is carried out and what needs to be enhanced to ease the process.
