Mental Health speaks of the state of proper functioning of the mind; that is, one can participate in productive activities, adapt to change, develop god relationships with other people and or cope with challenges as they present themselves. Mental health is crucial to an individual's wellbeing as well as interpersonal and family relationships, and the capability to contribute positively to society (Mental Health, n.d.). A mental disorder, on the other hand, refers to illnesses characterized by a change in behavior, mood, and modes of thinking. Mental disorders are associated with impaired functioning of the mind and distress. Moreover, mental illness results in several other problems, including pain, disability, among other physical diseases, and when severe, it causes death. Some of the objectives of mental health improvement include
1. Reducing suicide attempts by adolescents- the reason for the choice of this objective is due to an increase in the number of attempted suicide cases among adolescents in the past few years (Mental Health, n.d.). The adolescent stage is one of the crucial stages of development in life. Often, teenagers face emotional and behavioral changes and challenges during this stage; hence, they face the risk of displaying suicidal behavior. Therefore, engaging in this objective would be essential in identifying and coming up with intervention strategies and mechanisms to help youngsters cope with challenges in life. Moreover, the establishment and incorporation of prevention programs in school systems are required to help prevent an increase in suicides among young adults.
2. Increase in percentage of health care amenities, which offer psychological treatment onsite or by professional recommendation (Mental Health, n.d.)- Due to the overwhelming number of individuals with mental disorders, health workers face the burden of treating the ever-increasing number of patients, resulting to long working hours and consequently leading to the burnout syndrome. Treating mental disorders is a critical process that calls for attention from every health care stakeholder. Therefore, the want to surge the number of amenities providing treatment for psychological illnesses
