According to Wilson (2012), an ideal screening test should be simple, acceptable, rapid, inexpensive and safe. First, the test should be easy to perform and learned. Second, the test should take a short time to administer, the time expected to screen an individual is directly linked to the accomplishment of the program. Third, screening programs should be inexpensive, the lower the screening test, the higher the chances of the program to succeed. Fourth, all tests should be secure from all potential harm. Lastly, the tests should be acceptable to the target group (Wilson & Jungner, 2012).
American cancer society recommends that African American who has had a family member with prostate cancer before age 65 should be screened for prostate-specific antigen in the blood for the confirmation of prostate cancer before age 45. All screening tests should be done yearly for those clients with PSA level is 2.5ng/ml or higher. A well-balanced diet goes in hand with a healthy lifestyle. The correct diet can aid in fighting chronic conditions and illness such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer. High cholesterol diet should be avoided due to its relation to heart diseases. The individual should focus a diet on fruits, vegetables, proteins and whole grains. Obesity increases the chances of developing cancer, luckily there are foods that can help in prevention. Whole grains, berries, whole grains, cruciferous vegetables and black tea can assist in preventing different types of cancer.
Excess sedentary behavior and diminished exercise can lead to cardiovascular diseases. The goals of healthy people 2020 include assisting clients in 30 minutes of physical activity thrice per week (Kokkinos & Myers, 2013). Exercise prescription should be recommended with consideration of the following “E’s”. The first E is energy, exercise should be performed when the patient is energetic and has had adequate rest. The second E is the environment, the patient should avoid exercising in places with extreme temperatures so as to prevent any risk of collapsing during the process. The last E is the effort, patients are encouraged to exercise daily and advised on its health benefits.
Timely vaccination should base on age, medical condition, lifestyle and environment; can be enhanced by increasing community demand for vaccination (Shefer, Briss, & Rodewald, 2015). A low coverage result from lack of knowledge of the
