Health promotion is the process of enabling people to control and improve their health. On the other hand, ethics is about having a moral reasoning in everything that individuals do and it entails doing the right thing at any particular time. However, some ethical issues raise concerns over the provision of quality healthcare to patients.
Some of these issues include the efforts put in place to control the spread of contagious diseases raise concerns about how people are prepared as well as restricting individual choices in protecting other people’s wellbeing. For example, when isolating patients from others based on the diseases they have. In addition, some diseases like tuberculosis and smoking continue to affect and weaken the society. Some of these diseases are caused by unhealthy personal behaviors that raise the question on how the health authorities should interfere with personal life to promote good health (Cribb, 2005).
Moreover, the implementation of the international health regulations globally is brilliant since it shows how different countries are committed to deal with healthcare and public health emergencies. However, making these countries to act collectively and enforcing the obligations raise serious ethical dilemmas. In addition, issues revolving around the appropriate methods to promote healthcare raise a lot of concern. This is because of the fact that some people may understand appropriate to mean the most cost effective way to achieve the desired goals.
