Healthcare information technology (HIT) is a concept that is applied in healthcare facilities to enhance the communication within and without the premises. Numerous terminologies exist within the HIT concept that promotes communication in healthcare. Among the terminologies used in HIT is Clinical decision support (CDS), which refers to the system that contains reminders and the alerts that prompt the health IT users to remember their planned tasks, to avoid forgetting an action that would cause harm to a patient (Greenes, 2011). For instance, the CDS has alerts that remind the nurse to administer painkillers to a patient in the ward at 10 p.m. Additionally, the CDS has elements such as drug interaction checkers that are in the health records, for specific patients, and they inform the healthcare workers on the adverse effects of specific drug combinations which may cause death (Greenes, 2014). Such forms of communication have proved critical in the healthcare setting, promoting quality services and protecting patients’ health status.
