A system of health involves all people, organizations and activities whose principal intent is to maintain, restore and promotion of the health care quality and safety (OPSC, 2015).Electronic Health Record has been so phenomenal in the provision of evidence-based care which is critical for the promotion of the quality and safety of the patient, Unlike the use of traditional paperwork that is ineffective.
Many health organizations in the world have adopted the Electronic Health Record system for the storage of the patient's information. Besides storage of the data, physicians use EHR to the tracing of the patient's medical history, prescription and as an interaction platform with the patient. Whenever a new infection or an allergy occurs, the EHR automatically detects the new prescription and alerts the care providers. For instance, if a nurse prescribes a medication that may affect the effectiveness of the drugs that the patient is currently using, the system can notify the physician thus preventing adverse side effects before it occurs hence guaranteeing the safety of the patient (OPSC, 2015).
According to OPSC (2015) EHR allows the patient to have access to his medical information even when he is out of the hospital. The system allows the patient to interact with his medical data. Besides, the strategy empowers the patient to be part of the care hence promoting the healing process. The EHR allows the patient to have access to information about his medical condition that will help him to adopt healthy behaviors that will facilitate the healing process.
