Based on Kolcaba’s theory, comfort is a fundamental human desire. The various forms of comfort are relief, ease, and transcendence. This view illustrates the intertwined ideas in nursing with other middle-range theories. The approach has diverse roles in nursing that include comfort promotion as the main objective of care and guide students in the nursing profession. They learn the art and science of care that is in conjunction with nursing practice. For instance, when patients' needs are fully satisfied, they are relieved and feel at ease. Patients being at ease is an indication that they have completed therapy. Often, patients attain the state of transcendence when they overcome their hardships. Patients' comfort is influenced by environmental, psychological, physical, and spiritual factors.
