The nursing profession is in an ever constant process of change. Some of the changes are influenced by the external environment while other develops internally (Asif et al., 2019). Over the years, the notion of leadership has emerged as one of the most critical elements in enabling organizations as well as the nursing profession itself position themselves to embrace the challenges and transform them into opportunities for further growth and development (Broome & Marshall, 2021). At the organizational level, the impact of positive leadership behaviors not only creates healthy work environments but also motivate followers to embrace continuous learning.
One of the most prominent behaviors in transformational nursing leader revolve about the commitment to continuous improvement (Mlambo et al., 2021). Looking at modern healthcare organizations, the effectiveness and efficiencies observable amongst nursing teams is attributable the traits exhibited in leaders (Broome & Marshall, 2021). These are nursing leaders that work to foster a culture beginning within teams and spreading outwards into entire nursing departments and to other facets of the organization thus transforming the patient’s perception of healthcare provision (Duggan et al., 2015). A culture of continuous improvement and lifelong learning is at its core transformational (Mlambo et al., 2021). In instances where challenges are identified, transformational leaders that have foster a culture of continuous development and lifelong learning among followers commit to teamwork towards establishing creative solutions.
