Lupus is an autoimmune disease where your body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks your tissues and organ causing inflammation. The inflammation and swelling affect other bodily factors of other organs including kidneys, joints, blood cells, the brain, heart and lung tissue CITATION Tso16 \l 1033 (Tsokos, Lo, Reis, & Sullivan, 2016). According to research, lupus commonly affects women and can be diagnosed between the ages of fourteen and forty-four. The condition is difficult to diagnose as it mimics symptoms of other ailments. Lupus disease is not contagious, but in some cases, women diagnosed with the condition may give birth to children with form lupus known as neonatal lupus. There are two types of lupus i.e. discoid lupus and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) otherwise known as lupus CITATION Med18 \l 1033 (Medical News Today, 2018).
Lupus disease affects several body systems including joints, kidneys, blood vessels, brain tissue, nervous system, heart and lungs blood cells, and finally lymph glands. Lupus condition causes the tissues of the above organs to swell. The inflammation obstructs the normal operation and the homeostasis state of the tissues and body systems. Therefore, a patient may develop other types of complications, for example, blood clots, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic mental illness like schizophrenia, shortness of breath and chest pains. The mechanism of lupus involves a response of the immune systems releasing antibodies against a patient own tissue causing inflammation CITATION Moh15 \l 1033 (Mohan & Putterman, 2015).
