The process of evolution has divided life forms into two distinct classes. Prokaryote were the original inhabitants of the earth, but over millions of years, a new cell that was much complex cell form emerged as a result of evolution. Eukaryotes contained membrane-bound organelles and a nucleus that contained the genetic material of the cell. Prokaryotes, on the other hand, the cell lacked a cell nucleus or membrane-bound. All living organisms can be classified into the two classes of cells depending on whether their fundamental cell structures are prokaryote or eukaryote.
Two main differences are used to distinguish between and eukaryote cell structure and a prokaryote. The presence of a cell membrane; the cell membrane regulates the rate at which chemically cross into a cell. In short, it regulates the process of diffusion, osmosis and selective transport mechanism in cells. Prokaryotes are can be divided into two classes; bacteria and archaea. The two-class of prokaryotes have no cell membrane. Instead, the cell structure is made up of a cell wall, cytoplasm, flagella, and a nucleoid. While eukaryotic celled organisms have cells where the nucleus is bound by a membrane. A typical eukaryote cell contains multiple structures and organelles that serve different functions all surrounded by a plasma membrane.
