Growing up in Africa, life was always hopeful. The future seemed brighter, even when the present situation was only tolerable. I hoped for a better future, not only for myself but also for my community. I knew then that the acquisition of knowledge and education was one way to turn around my life and of the people around me, for we are not educated just for ourselves but for the rest of us. When I was between the ages of 6 and 8, life was unassuming. I walked 3 miles to school and 3 miles’ home. I ate whatever was put in front of me without question. I knew that times were not easy for my parents. However, they taught me to be grateful for what I have and work hard in school. I developed a perseverance spirit, and the will to excel in school. Though my parents did not have a lot of wealth, they encouraged me to have big dreams and to follow them. I believe that through hard work and patience, my dreams will come true.
