The last significant outbreak of measles in the USA took place from 1989 to 1991. This epidemic was dominated by the low immunization rates of Hispanic pre-school infants and early adulthood. The national infection rates have fallen to an all-time low after a review of standards for measles vaccinations. Hispanics are significantly affected whenever there is a measles outbreak in Texas, with about twenty percent of the general patients having no vaccination history. This excerpt explores to get a better understanding of the behaviors of the Hispanic population living in Texas and some sources in the context of measles prevalence.
Political discourse has contributed significantly to the prevalence of measles among Hispanics in Texas. The Hispanics have politicized the measles vaccine with claims against them to suppress their population. This and other conspiracy theories have led to primary vaccine failure. Movements supporting vaccination by choice have further contributed to the issue.
