Vaccination of Older Adults
There is a general misconception that vaccines are only meant for children. However, research has shown that up to 45,000 adults die every year from diseases they could have prevented through vaccination (Haq & McElhaney, 2014). As people age, they become vulnerable and susceptible to illnesses. The best way to deal with such complications is to receive the vaccination. Some of the vaccines that adults receive include influenza, pneumococcal, Herpes Zoster, and the measles mumps and rubella vaccines (Pera et al., 2015). It is in this regard that the Center for Disease and Control and Healthy People 2020 advocate for an increase in the ease of access and insurance coverage for screening and vaccinations through the Medicaid and Medicare programs.
