Alternative medicine refers to medical practices, including products, that do not fall under the category of standard care. Standard care describes the practice of profession offered by medical doctors, along with other allied health professionals that include but not limited to nurses, medical technologists, physical and occupational therapists, and pharmacists. This branch of medicine is utilized as an alternative in place of the known standard medical care. To elaborate further, this branch of medicine is used in the treatment of heart disease, as an example, wherein chelation therapy is employed. Instead of the standard approach, chelation therapy involves the removal of excess metals that are found in the blood. Other examples include traditional medicine, homeopathy, and chiropractic.
