The method of transmitting pathogens from one host to another by carrying microorganisms inside the body and hosting their survival until the transmission has occurred is that of vector-based disease transmission. A vector is defined as an organism functioning as a carrier of infectious agents between the organisms of different species (Wilson et al., 2017). Vectors can be organisms that only have the role of mechanically transmitting disease from one host to another and can be fomites that are inanimate objects that have the capability of transmitting infectious materials between two hosts like injectable devices.
However, for this discussion question, the role of the vector as a living organism and has the capability of hosting a disease transiently before transferring it between two hosts will be considered.
