Growing older is inevitable, and, life is not always about quantity but quality. As people begin to age, they get incarcerated by numerous challenges. They include: feeling lonely, stress and depression. It is crucial to value their emotional and mental needs to have an optimistic view of life. Therefore, family members have a direct impact on their loved one’s life quality. The paper is a case study, and it discusses an older immigrant couple: Mr. and Mrs. Arahan. The strategies that could improve their lives quality, community resources they can utilize, what their daughter needs to do to address their feeling of isolation and health promotion activities to ensure their healthy lifestyle.
What strategies could be suggested for this older couple to enhance the quality of their life?
Firstly, the couple needs to embrace physical activity. It is critical to motivating older people to practice walking to stimulate blood flow and builds stamina. Research has revealed that most older adults suffer from weakening bodily functioning due to lack of exercise (Sinsihu et al. 2018). Another important strategy is ensuring the couple’s house is well ventilated to get rid of excess heat in summer and too much cold during winter. For instance, there should be a fireplace inside the house to provide warmth during cold seasons because as people grow older, their bodies get weaker. (Sinsihu et al., 2018). Therefore, to have a quality life, the couple should normalize physical activities such as walking around the compound regularly and ensure the house is well ventilated.
