Professional competency is a key aspect of the world we are living in. Competency requires the delivery of professional standards services. Nurses must be competent to enhance the safety and the quality of nursing care they provide to patients. The nurse practice act (NPA) guides the nursing professional. Assessment of competencies has been seen as an important matter for addressing professional standards (Fukada, 2018). Competency assessment has three roles evaluated for the nurses before applying the nurse act; they include behavioral, holism, and trait theory. Behaviorism assessment assesses the nurse's ability to perform individual skills, and analysis is done by demonstrating the understanding of those skills (Fukada, 2018). Trait assessment evaluates the individual capacity of critical thinking and problem-solving. On the other hand, holistic assessment assesses many skills such as skills, attitude, knowledge, and the thinking ability of the nurse. One advantage of having a competency assessment is it helps nurses to improve their practice because they can identify areas that require strengths.
Nurses who qualify for delegation possess skills and competencies.
