Accreditation is one a key aspect in guaranteeing that patients are safe and receives the correct health care services. National patient safety Goals (NPSGs) is a body that was formed to authorize establishments that meet patient safety necessities (Sakai, et al, 2015). The main role of accreditation is to improve assurance among patient in the safety care, improve on the managing of health danger. It generates awareness on health issues and patient safety, and provide informative programs in order to improve organizational operations (Sakai, et al, 2015). It helps in raising health standards in health centres by exposing trust that has weak or poor service delivery, allows the poor practice, poor staffing levels or those that fail to follow the recommended professional guidelines. In overall, they help to decrease medical errors and raise standards.
The relationship between organization achievements in meeting NPSGs and the results of the Joint Commission survey is that the survey conducted is designed in a way that is an organization- specific and supports focus on supporting the performance of the relevant organization (Kluge,2017). The survey process is conducted to assess the organization performance and provide staff members and other employees with an information that will be of help in improving the performance of the organization.
Patient needs and safety are the main reason why accreditation survey is conducted. If an organization is found to have not met the requirement by NPSGs it is either fined or denied accreditation. One major penalty an organization may face when it fails to fulfil the requirement is a citation (Sakai, et al, 2015). It is frequently issued when the survey committee recognizes that an employee does not follow to the hygiene guidelines. Similarly, an organization can dine accreditation or a preliminary denial. A preliminary denial is issued when there is sufficient evidence that the organization breached the requirement and is a threat to health and patient safety. However, the organization is given time to rectify or appeal the decision. When all the appeals are exhausted and the organization still does not meet the requirement, it is permanently denied accreditation.
When it comes to assessing my organization on its readiness, I would approach the JCIs advisory body to go through our services and advise us on where to rectify. This will help us to streamline our services as we prepare for the survey (Joint Commission, 2016).
