Introduction
The process of becoming a nurse has been viewed by many people as an act of passively participating in politics. However, nurses regard themselves as politically powerless even though a relationship exists between components of political action and nursing activities. In the United States, politics, health services, nursing practices, and patient care are controlled by political and public policy processes. Therefore, the study involved political advocacy and its effects on nursing and health care.
Selection of political advocacy
The research study was based on political advocacy, which was selected from the professional nursing association website. Professional nursing associations are organizations committed for personal and professional growth and development of members. Becoming a member of the professional nursing association was vital as it provides crucial information, resources, and learning opportunities to the members. Nursing associations empower members with up to date practices, gain knowledge for a health expert, and assimilate what other hospitals are doing for innovation and advancement of the health care system.
Types of professional nursing association
During the research period, below were types of professional nursing associations and their support for political advocacy (Halstead, 2017). American Nurses Association, whose members get access to an online library for research information. Hospice and Palliative Association enable members to access information from journals and also have a support network (Halstead, 2017). American Red Cross allows nurses to attend seminars and pieces of training for leadership skills. National Student Association provides career opportunities for the student. State Nursing Association provides an opportunity for learning continuation. According to this research study, the American Nurses Association was selected among the above-named associations (Granger et al. 2018). It was selected due to government connections, it is the largest association, and members can seek employment and free access to journals
