Politics and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
The “Affordable Care Act” (ACA) law was first enacted in 2010 during the Obama administration to address health insurance as well as healthcare costs and patient prevention care. The health reform legislation at the time envisioned that the act would reduce the number of uninsured persons in the United States. The reform included a variety of provisions directed towards realizing the goal such as individual directives, healthcare insurance transformations, reasonably priced insurance exchanges, and insurance premium credits for the people among others (Holahan & Blumberg, 2017). The reform requires a significant gathering of resources from long-standing communal programs together with a clear track record that would relate to health equity.
People of all political divides are affected by the decisions made by the government of the day. In deed certain people benefit more than others once a policy is realized and developed. As such, people of varying political divides get concerned when they consider professed competing interests of the government of the day and the influence it would have on them. When the Trump administration assumed power, its approach to health insurance included repealing and replacing Affordable Care Act requirements together with the individual mandate as well as developing American Care Act. However, the efforts to repeal and replace ACA were futile as there were not enough legislators to pass the motion.
A cost-benefit analysis approach involves making a contrast of the costs incurred from making a decision to its merits. Without a doubt, the major goal of a legislator is to be reinstated to office. Repealing ACA meant hurting the common American voter and as such, the legislators declined to support the motion as it put the re-election impossible.
In the instance that the legislation was able to pass the motion of repealing and replacing ACA, they would be viewed by the people as though they were acting in the interests that did not favor society. Among ...
