It is undeniably true that evidence-based practice has become essential in the matters related to optimal patient care and healthcare professional practice in many facilities globally. Nonetheless, nursing professionals in various hospital systems continue to experience barriers to continued implementation and promotion of evidence-based care. In this discussion, therefore, we are going to identify the potential obstacles that may prevent an EBP change proposal from continuing to obtain the same desired results six months to a year from now, and the strategies for overcoming these barriers.
According to Sullivan et al. (2017), in most cases, the quality of the research conducted plays a crucial role in determining the implementation of change within an organization. If there are barriers in the methodology used such as weak justification of the study, conflicting results, uncertainty as well as the use of articles that are not published in time, the probability that the proposal will not be sufficient within the desired period is very high. Therefore, to minimize the barrier, the research must ensure that the articles used are updated, and the study is clinically significant to ensure that the study is credible.
Additionally, the physical accessibility of the published research and the ability to disseminate the study to the appropriate audiences is another potential barrier that may inhibit the success of an EBP change proposal (Bahadori et al., 2016). Reason being, poor accessibility of the information results to lack of adequate knowledge on the significance of the EBP, resistance to change from the care providers, and lack of motivation and interest from the care providers.
