Suicide has become a public health concern modernly. In the health-care profession (HCP), the number of cases involving suicides has become prevalent. Due to high-stress levels, long working hours, increased access to controlled substances, and their continued contact with critically ill and dead people, influence the rise in the level of premature deaths, substance abuse, and development of suicidal thoughts. The high rates of suicide in the profession has become a public health problem since the practice perpetuate the level of mortality rates in the world. Besides, suicide-related deaths result in anger and unrest in the society since the people who die have improved skills and knowledge in the field of healthcare. Above all, the high suicidal rates in the profession result in the loss of skills and expertise. The increased access to drugs and substances, high-stress tasks, contact to dead and critically ill persons, and long working hours perpetuate the level of suicide rates among the HCP.
The contemporary occupational groups have realized an increased level of suicides. In the healthcare sector, for example, the rates of professionals who commit suicide have gone high. According to Mintz, Jamison, & Bol (2018), Colorado stood in ninth position in the United States pertaining to the suicidal rates in 2015.
