Public health is critical in ensuring disease prevention, community education, children wellness, disaster relief, minority empowerment, and access to basic human needs. Public health workers ought to give more attention to the most vulnerable communities and address matters of social justice. Community education is crucial as it helps prevent illnesses, ensure faster treatment, and prevent conflict over access to health service systems. Thus, public health workers have the responsibility to identify community needs and seek resources to overcome challenges.
The ‘healthcare in rural communities’ video offers a viable example on the role and impacts of public health experts. Although the professionals made significant strides in improving the healthcare of people in rural areas of Belize, they should have diversified their awareness creation program. According to the video, some women faced problems of domestic abuse, which tampered with their health and that of their children (Laureate Education, 2012g). Despite the low police to village ratio, the program should have sought assistance in implementing a community watch program that reports men who abuse their wives to local authorities. Such a program would also include marital education to ensure strong familial bonds despite health or financial barriers.
