Public health professionals are responsible for the quality of public health services. These professionals are affiliated with various government agencies. The professionals act on the pillars of prevention, cooperation, and care for the medically underserved in the society. Healthy People 2020 outlines objectives that need to be met to ensure a healthy population by the year 2020. Since that is exceedingly close, Healthy People 2030 have become the focus for public health stakeholders. These goals are dynamic regarding changing living conditions and aim to improve the living conditions of members of the public.
Emerging or Expanding roles for public health professionals in 2030 and beyond
The Healthy People 2020 goals related to public health infrastructure seeks to ensure that federal, state, tribal, territorial, and local health agencies have the infrastructure required to provide essential public services effectively (People, 2011). Public health infrastructure indicates the nation's capacity to prevent disease, promote health, and readiness to respond to emergency and chronic health threats. A capable and qualified workforce is an essential element of the infrastructure alongside up-to-date data and information systems and strong institutions. The challenges observed towards the achievement of Healthy People 2020 public health goals point towards the integration of prevention into the curriculum of public health education professionals. Although this component is in the curriculum, there is prudence in enhancing its emphasis. The primary threats to public health currently include the possibility of emergencies from chemical, biological, as well as radiological terrorism (People, 2011). Furthermore, natural disasters such as hurricanes, fires, and floods add to the list of human-influenced calamities such as accidents. More so, infectious and lifestyle illnesses' prevalence has been on the rise.
