Risk Assessment of MERS in Saudi Arabia Student Name University Introduction Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a respiratory disease caused by virus called corona virus. It was reported first in 2012 in a part of Middle East known as Saudi Arabia. Corona virus causes a variety of illness since it consists of different types of the corona virus CITATION Maj15 \l 1033 (Majumder, 2015). It causes both mild and severe acute illnesses. It has now spread to other countries and continents like United States. The virus has become an emerging issue in the health care industry because it is a contagious disease that is spread by close contacts like when nurses are handling patients with unprotected care. The latest outbreaks of MERS-CoV have which have occurred during the month of September were reported at United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia. The symptoms of MERS are cough, fever, and shortness of breath. Pneumonia might be a symptom though not a must to be present. Some instances of MERS are asymptomatic and cannot be noticed unless under laboratory cases. Under severe and acute MERS condition, it can lead to breathing failure and admittance to intensive care unit. Even though MERS is controllable about 30% of those diagnosed with this disease have died. It is a zoonatic virus that is communicable between human kind and animals. Camels are carries of the virus and can pass it to humans under close contacts such as riding or cleaning them. This may be indirect or direct. But majorly, the disease is passed from human to human in health care centers. It is more adverse to the elderly, the ones diagnosed with chronic diseases such as cancer and those with very weak immunes. Since it is communicable, there is a great risk of getting infected, imparting fear to those in environments with MERS victims. Doctors and nurses are at a risk of getting infected by MERS-CoV, transmitting to their families. No vaccine has been invented and victims are just treated according to their health conditions. Hence preventive measures and control mechanisms have to be put in place mostly in health care settings. Ministries of health of the affected countries have come in and launched MERS control campaigns and strategies. To strategize controls in health care setting, MERS cases have to be assessed and evaluated. Hence the rates of such instances in Saudi Arabia hospitals. Statement of Purpose A MERS assessment plan is needed in each health care in Saudi Arabia to get exact numbers of victims ailing from MERS. This will help in implementing their strategies and launching their campaigns to make MERS controllable. There is continued and major occurrence of health care outbreaks which are affecting the workers. MWRS does not have specific symptoms hence frequent assessment has to be conducted. Once the infected are identified, they need to be isolated to curb the spread. It will involve treating them according to their clinical condition and offering them moral support. Workers in the health care need to have full protection gear when handling all patients whether diagnosed with MERS or not. AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY OF IMPLIMENTATION WHO is concerned with worldwide upholding of health. In cooperation with the ministries of the affected countries in Middle East, they ought to come in aiding MERS control. They should collect the statistics and evaluate and analyze the occurrences. The government should conduct a mandatory tests for all its citizens and offer free medical care to those found to have the infection. This will at least reduce the mortality rate of MERS victims. Moreover the government should not allow issuances of passports to victims to ensure the disease is not spread to other countries. Public health authorities have a mandate of implementing policies and order well. The government will be assisted by the health care administration in regulation setting. The governments should provide full protective gear for all workers then carry put the assessment to get statistics of the spread of MERS with protection. They must ensure too their workers wear full personnel protective equipment when handling all patients. The workers will be obliged to take self tests and too patients tests. They should set rules such as everyone diagnosed with MERS should be isolated whether they are willing or not. Goals and objectives The main objective of Risk assessment of MERS is to clearly comprehend the transmission patterns and the risks it poses to the society and health care centers with the goal of providing best measures and precautions to control the spread of MERS-CoV. Also, early testing will enable early detection of the virus. Assessment will provide full awareness to the members of the society and hospital workers. They will understand better the danger of contracting the disease and will try to protect themselves fully. The major goal is to eradicate MERS totally in Saudi Arabia and have a free MERS world. Once an outbreak of MERS occurs, a risk assessment plan will ensure that it spreads no further. WHO and health ministries are working together to make MERS is controllable and treatable by inventing its cure. All this efforts will fully eradicate MERs fully. Understanding fully what MERS, all its hazard to the community will help lower mortality rates of MERS or even reduce to zero. Severe acute breathing problem is one the symptom of MERS and it is should be considered in the plan. This condition should be treatable fully. Also, adopting right control measures that are well outlined should be part of the objectives. Achieving the best control measures are the stepping block of controlling MERS. Scope and functions This plan entails assessing MERS, its symptoms, outcome to the society and how it can be controlled. It involves carrying out treatment of victims under protection, creating awareness to the public and isolating the affected. It too covers the strategies and measures used in trying to achieve a MERS free world. The risk assessment will cover all the Hospitals of Saudi Arabia and can be applicable to other hospitals in Middle East or any other affected country. This are places where MERs incidences have been reported. The plan should identify those that are at high risk of contracting MERS. They are the aged, those that have weak immune systems and those that have acute diseases like cancer and diabetes.
