Recent studies have suggested the need to assess the social determinants in combating some form of illness. Researches have been conducted to analyze the interaction of behavioral and social aspect in illnesses. Social determinants of health are the social, economic and political issues that people are born in. They are circumstances in which people work or live in. These factors affect issues of health (CDC, 2014).
Social determinants have led to health inequalities in the society. Social determinants are based on how much money, power and resources one has. Social determinants have led to increase in cases of illnesses. Social disparities lead to inaccessibility of health facilities to the less privileged people in the society. Factors such as lack of education, poverty and stigma lead to poor health conditions. Management of diseases becomes difficult. Social determinants can be tackled by improving the daily conditions of life. Handling the health distribution inequality would also help management of social determinants of health.
Communicable diseases spread from one person to another. Medium of transmission include contact, air and water. Communicable diseases are termed to be infectious or contagious. A communicable disease chain is made up of the source, host, infective agent and the intermediary (WHO, 2014).
Communicable diseases can be prevented. Where they have spread, the extent of spread can be controlled. Nurses can break the spread of communicable diseases by taking the necessary precautions to prevent spread. The first step is close monitoring of the patients.
