One of the top causes of mortality in late childhood and adolescence across the globe is suicide, even though it is more common in the elderly than in the young. Many young lives are lost directly, with negative repercussions on other fronts, including the social and economic spheres. Suicide among young people is a significant concern from the standpoint of public mental health.
Jennifer’s Risk Factors
Jennifer is a teenager who has a personality disorder. She does not accept her physical appearance and her attraction to older boys. As such, she is ashamed of telling her parents about her physical development and what she goes through in school. This confirms her lack of emotional support. Notably, due to her lack of self-esteem, she is carried away by news of a girl who committed suicide and therefore contemplates committing it.
