Tardive dyskinesia is a side effect that arises from the treatment of schizophrenia, and it is characterized by the development of muscle movements which are involuntary (Unit 3). Notably, the involuntary muscle movement can become permanent if the drug treatment is not discontinued. Some of the pharmacological interventions that have been effective in managing schizophrenia related disorder symptoms are thiothixene, thioridazine, fluphenazine, perphenazine, haloperidol, chlorpromazine, aripiprazole, Thorazine, lurasidone, ziprasidone, among others (Bhandari, 2021). However, the above pharmacological interventions have various side effects such as weight gain, growth of breast tissues in both men and women,
