In the US, the senior citizens are usually found at the center of numerous issues of social policy, most prominently the Medicare and the Social Security. Usually, security is the program of social insurance that entails the benefits of survivors, disability, as well as retirement (Gardener & Gilleskie, 2012). For one to qualify for such benefits, most of the American citizen employees pay the taxes for Social Security on their earnings and their future benefits are utterly based on the contribution of these workers. The administration of the Social Security was established in 1935 as part of the “New Deal of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Social Security has become the hugest welfare program in America, consisting of 7% GDP and 37% government expenditure. Millions of Americans get more than $700 billion annually in Social Security.
The Congress came up with the Medicare in 1965 under Title XVIII of the Act of Social Security. Medicare offers the insurance covers of health to the senior citizens baseless on medical history or income. The population of Medicare varies in substantial ways from the general population.
